ECO Journeys Program Philosophy
Building Critical Thinkers
Field Programs Main The Curriculum Signing Up

The depth of content in ECO Journeys sets us apart from other educational programs. Through participation in a Discovery Program or Immersion Workshop, participants are able to explore the environment through the natural and social sciences. In each program, students are engaged intellectually, culturally, socially, and physically. They pose questions, investigate, experiment, solve problems, assume responsibility, use creativity, and construct meaning. By exploring the world from multiple perspectives, individuals gain a balanced understanding and become equipped to make cooperative well-reasoned decisions. Authentic learning occurs when their experiences are supported by reflection, critical analysis and synthesis.

Through real understanding, it is our goal that people finish our programs with a deeper appreciation for themselves, others, the environment, and global conservation.
We challenge individuals to ask questions about the world around them and inspire them to pursue a life rich in experiences. All of our field program emphasize exploration, real world research, discovery, adventure and discussion. Students have ample time to reflect on and process what they have learned both through group discussions and independently through solo journal writing.

Students come away from an ECO Journey with a greater understanding of how people interact with their environment and a better idea of how to make ecologically sound and sustainable decisions surrounding complex issues.
It is our goal for students to bridge these concepts into their everyday habits and actions, thereby shaping their personal values and professional careers.
