Each itinerary will be custom designed for the group, allowing for maximum time spent exploring different ecosystems and viewing wildlife. Our specific activities will be determined based upon each group’s specific course objectives and program length.Forest Valley

Field Activities

  • Take a night tour of the Belize Zoo to get a great up close view of more than 60 native species of animals, including pumas, jaguars, tapir, and kinkajous.

  • Discover the Maya Mountain high pine ridge. Swim in waterfalls, explore limestone caves, and observe orchids, birds, frogs, monkeys, and other animals, as we follow the river hiking down the ridge.

  • Learn about the rise and fall of the ancient Maya civilization as we look at artifacts of their past, including pottery, petroglyphs and temples.

  • Canoe down the Sibun River, following the change in ecosystems through forests to savanna, and eventually to coastal lagoons, estuaries and mangrove forests.

  • Talk to local community members about how the river affects their life. Meet members of the Sibun Watershed Association.

  • Participate in a river clean up.

  • Hike and snorkel at night to see how the forest and ocean comes alive in the dark.

  • Observe manatees and dolphins in the coastal lagoons. Discuss the impact of tourism on these mammals.

  • Snorkel in the second largest barrier reef ecosystem in the world with a local marine biologist as your guide. Learn about tropical marine ecology as you swim among corals, tropical fish, stingrays, barracuda, sharks and turtles.

  • Optional home stay program with local Creole families.
