Each itinerary will be custom designed for each group, allowing for maximum time spent exploring different ecosystems, the culture of Grand Manan, and viewing wildlife. Our specific activities will be determined based upon each group’s specific course objectives and program length.

Field Activities
  • See the rarest species of whale in the world, the Northern Right Whale and learn about their biology and behavior from Laurie Muirson, who has been researching these whales for over 25 years.

  • Experience nature through smells, tastes, and touches while on a sensory hike

  • Search for crabs, periwinkles, nudibranchs, sponges, seas stars, sea urchins, and more while exploring the local tide pools

  • View whales, porpoises, seabirds, sharks, and more aboard the Schooner D’Sonqua

  • While on the water, learn local history, knot tying skills, navigation, and water chemistry

  • Identify warblers, sparrows, and flycatchers with an expert ornithologist as they are caught in a mist net and banded for future identification

  • Explore the acidic soils and predatory plants of a bog

  • View the night sky without the impacts of city lights and learn the legends of the constellations

  • Board the Sea Watcher to view various species of puffins and seals up close

  • Learn about herring weirs and salmon farms as you kayak around the island
  • Use team-building activities to breakdown boundaries within your group
